– OUR STORY
In 1985 WindStone Jams founder Wayne Shumate, needing
a diversion from his day job, planted blackberries on the 110
acre family farm in Central Kentucky. Two years of abundant
sunshine and the family farm was plenty of fruit.
Blackberries by the bushel were harvested and sold through
local farmer?s markets and retail grocery stores using the old
stone house on the property, built in 1812, as a packing
station.
But, there were just too many blackberries. After making as
many cobblers and cakes that could be made, Wayne dug
out the family recipe for making blackberry jam. He bought hundreds of pounds of pure cane sugar, boxes upon boxes of quart jars and began making the ?Real Stuff,? his own private label blackberry jam to give to family and friends.
From this kitchen hobby grew the tradition of picking each plump berry by hand and slowly simmering with pure cane sugar, always in small batches, and never with any preservatives.
WindStone Farms Blackberry and Strawberry jam is made with the same care today. You may order your jam online by clicking the icon below. We know you will taste the love in your first bite and that you?ll want to share the joy with family and friends.
